NEST projects are routinely associated with training workshops, to develop the required level of skills, understanding of issues and methods for  those participating in the project. Training by NEST reached its highest level when, with the support of Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FEF),  developed the Environmental Awareness Training Manual (EATM), and applied it in the training of staff of the secondary school system in Imo State, and local government staff in Oyo, Enugu and Bauchi states. At the instance of UNICEF, the manual was later modified to stress aspects of water and sanitation, and is awaiting re-publication.
