NEST Conference 2026 – Day 1 Highlights


Day One of the NEST Conference 2026 brought together policymakers, academics, environmental experts, industry stakeholders, and civil society representatives to discuss sustainable mining, environmental protection, and conflict management in Nigeria.

A major highlight was the keynote address by Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who emphasized the need for stronger governance, environmental justice, and community inclusion in the mining sector.

Participants also engaged in insightful discussions on the environmental, legal, and social challenges associated with mining, while exploring practical solutions for promoting sustainable resource development and peaceful coexistence in mining communities.
